Day 9
October 24 Binfield Lions vs Aldershot Town Reds 24/10/09Binfield Lions 3 - 1 Aldershot Town Reds
09h30 kick off, Saturday 24th October 2009.
Venue : Stubbs Lane, League Match Conditions : Wet Attendance : 46 Binfield Players : Jamie, Adriano, Billy Rogers, Billy Rushin, Thomas, Seb, Connor Hayhow, Joe, Josh, Dan, Guy, Michael, Max, Tom This eagerly awaited top of the table clash did not disappoint. An excellent match played in a very good spirit by both teams. Conditions were overcast, and the pitch was in good condition – overnight rain left a nice surface for good football.
First Half Binfield started strongly and were soon ahead. Max Uttley saw his shot well saved, and Joe Cole was on hand to knock into the net. 1-0 after 4 minutes. Binfield continue with some good passing movements, Guy Rawsthorne playing well, and tackling strongly. Dan Muino was working hard at the back to keep Aldershot out. Aldershot started to come into the game with some good passing. On 21 minutes a long shot went just over Jamie Rogers – 1-1. On 24 minutes, Josh Valentin and Billy Rogers linked up well. On 26 minutes Brandon, who had put over a couple of good crosses, went off with an injury – here’s to a quick recovery. Binfield came back into the game. Michael Harrison went down the wing, and Joe Cole had a shot well saved. From the corner, Michael Harrison nearly scored with a good flick/shot. Just on half time, Connor Hayhow won a strong tackle, and the ball went to Josh Valentin. He hit a great shot from the edge of the box which the keeper had no chance with. 2-1 to Binfield at half time and all to play for.
Second Half Binfield started the second half well. Connor Hayhow worked hard early on and Josh Valentine had another long shot, which the keeper saved. Aldershot applied some pressure – but Jamie Rogers was equal to everything. A couple of fantastic saves maintained the lead – he was really there when we needed him. Binfield hit back and had a good spell of pressure as they went looking for the goal that would seal the victory. Sure enough, it came. A through ball was taken by Josh Valentin who crossed for Connor Hayhow to score from close range – 3-1. Binfield continued to attack and had a couple of half chances as they finished strongly. The last great move saw Billy Rogers make a pin point pass for Connor Hayhow, whose first touch was excellent – and his instant shot went just over
An excellent match. Both teams tried to play football. Jamie Rogers made saves at key moments, and Binfield took their chances well. The Binfield defence stood strong when Aldershot pushed on. Congratulations to all 14 players. Work rate, effort and commitment were excellent. Great work by the management team after last week’s disappointment.
Goals: Joe Cole, Josh Valentin, Connor Hayhow
Man of the Match: Jamie Rogers October 17 Ashridge Park vs Binfield Lions 17/10/09Ashridge Park 2 - 1 Binfield Lions
09h00 kick off, Saturday 17th October 2009.
Venue : Keepatch Park, League Match Conditions : Overcast, Dry Attendance : 29 Binfield Players : Jamie, Adriano, Billy Rogers, Billy Rushin, Thomas, Connor Hall, Seb, Connor Hayhow, Joe, Josh, Matthew, Louie, Dan, Guy, Michael, Tom
Small pitch, small goals the game got bogged down into a midfield battle with both teams defending in numbers, there was very little space to create anything clear-cut. Flowing football was at a minimum. The Lions went behind when a long distance cross-shot drifted into the one area that Jamie could not cover. Moments later the Lions conceded a second goal from a well taken corner and a bullet near post header that ripped into the net. The Lions fought back and their energy levels and urgency went up a notch or two, eventually a loose clearance was played into Connor Hayhow who hit a first time powerful shot from distance into the top corner.
Second Half.
Loads of possession, the game was predominantly played in the Ashridge half, but no goals. Ashridge defended in numbers, packed their penalty area and the more the game went on the Lions frustration increased as they couldn't find the killer pass to unleash the forwards. Billy was very unlucky not to score when his volley smashed against the bar, the rebound being hacked to safety. Joe Cole nearly made something of nothing with a near-post flick header that skimmed the top of the bar, in a normal sized goal it would have gone in ! Then the most contentious decision of the day, Joe Cole running across the area away from goal was fouled on the line.... very close call but no penalty. The game then drifted away, time ran out and Ashridge justifiably celebrated the victory that their resolute defending deserved.
Goals:Connor Hayhow Man of the Match: October 03 Binfield Lions v NPL Youth 10/10/09Binfield Lions 2 - 0 NPL Youth
09h00 kick off, Saturday 10th October 2009.
Venue : Stubbs Lane, Leauge Match Conditions : Sunny & Mild Attendance : 34 Binfield Players : Jamie, Adriano, Billy Rogers, Billy Rushin, Connor Hall, Seb, Connor Hayhow, Joe, Josh, Matthew, Louie, Dan, Guy, Michael The boys were hoping to continue their unbeaten run against the unknown NPL Youth. First Half Binfield kicked off and were immediatley on the attack, forcing a corner in the 1st minute. A well excuted corner by Connor Hayhow but an enthusiastic challenge on the edge of the area by Joe Cole resulted in a free kick to NPL. End to end footbal with NPL making better use of counter attacking football catching the Lions off guard at times, (seems that they haven't woken up yet) and a bad clearance at the back resulted in NPL 1st shot on goal only to be cleared by Jamie. The game was being controlled by Matthew and Josh in midfield and from yet another break away by NPL, Jamie had to come off his line to avoid an almost certain goal. The Lions continued to press forward and had several opportunities on goal but none come to fruition. At this stage NPL looked like more determined to score and had a long range shot hit the woodwork. The Manager forced to make a few substitutions, on came Billy Rushin who seemed to be possessed on the left wing. On one of his runs, he crossed the ball into the NPL box with Hayhow slamming the ball against the bar, the clearance ended up on the left and Billy once again provided a cross to be perfectly met by Guy's head. 1-0 to Lions, the goal came at a perfect time as halft time whistle was blown a minute later. Second Half NPL came out strong determined to get the equaliser, but they came up against Billy Rogers, Seb, Adriano and Dan who were solid in defence. The half time talk seemed to be working as the Lions were now dominating with Billy Rogers, Billy Rushin and Josh Valentine combining well. From a NPL goal kick, Adriano pushed a player in the back trying to win a header resulting in a free kick, but he redeemed himself by heading away. The Managers instructions were working with the boys playing wider and Lions continued to battle but with strong opposition making things difficult, another goal seemed a long way away. Connor Hayhow charged from almost the half way line down the right wing and had a go at goal from distance, the keeper got a hand to it but the ball landed to Billy Rushin who cooly slots it home. 2-0 to the Lions. The boys seemed to be rejuvinated by the 2 goal lead and yet from another attack the ball is crossed into the box and once again Guy headers it, but saved by the keeper. Continued pressure from the Lions with Louie having an opportunity to score and top drawer save by the keeper. NPL were desperately trying to get one back had a goal dissallowed with 3 players in an offside position. A good overall performance and a well deserved win. Goals: Guy Rawsthorne, Billy Rushin Man of the Match: Adriano Periquito September 26 Binfield Lions vs FC Bracknell 03/09/09Binfield Lions 5 - 1 FC Bracknell
09h00 kick off, Saturday 3rd October 2009.
Venue : Stubbs Lane, Leauge Match Conditions : Dry, Windy Attendance : 37 Binfield Players : Jamie, Thomas A, Adriano, Tom S, Billy Rogers, Billy Rushin, Connor Hall, Seb, Connor Hayhow, Joe, Josh, Matthew, Louie Max, Dan First Half. Having already played FC Bracknell and scraping a 4-3 win, the boy’s seemed to be determined to win today. The Lions started off positively with good passing football but our strikers were just being caught offside from a well drill Bracknell defence. A couple of half chances were put wide and the Lions looked like their shooting skills needed to be sharpened. Most of the play seemed to be in the Bracknell half until they managed a break and created a couple of corners which were defended well by the Lions. The Lions battled hard in the middle of the park and were awarded a free kick after a Bracknell defender made a pass back to their keeper. Connor Hall tapped the ball back to Connor Hayhow you curled the ball into the top right corner making it 1-0. This seemed to wake the Lions up, Matthew used his strength and slotted a good ball through to Connor Hall to make it 2-0. The Lions were on the prowl and soon a long throw from Billy found Louie in the Bracknell box who volleyed to increase it to a 3 goal lead. At this point I noticed the Stat man was finding it hard to keep up as the Lions piled on the pressure. Dan produced a great cross in but the ball was cleared out only for it to be hammered back into the Bracknell box but it skewed wide. Against the run of play Bracknell broke and with the Lions defence pushed up managed to open up a gap to have a shot but Jamie had it covered. The Lions continued to dominate the first half and were rewarded with another goal after Josh broke through and passed to Joe who made it 4-0.In the dying minutes of the first half the ball is cleared through to Joe who had a great first touch – through on goal only to be taken down outside the box. Free kick to the Lions. The ball hits the wall and Bracknell break, Jamie aware as ever makes the decision to come forward to clear and the whistle blows for the first half. Lions 4 Bracknell 0. Second Half With a few of the boys having to leave, the Lions had to regroup. Another good break from Josh followed by a decent cross finds Billy Rushin at the far post but wrong footed he hits over the bar. The Lions continued the pressure but couldn' find a way through Bracknell defence, crosses come in from Josh, Hayhow and Billy Rushin but all are cleared away by the Bracknell defence. Then Bracknell managed to get a good attack, which results in a throw in near the Lions box. The Bracknell midfielder puts in a long throw which finds their striker who hits it cleanly but Jamie produces a good save. Much slower half and the Lions are not using the width of the pitch most of the play is in the middle of the pitch neither side creating many chances. The Lions try to create pressure and Connor Hayhow’s throw finds Louie in the box who heads it on across the face of goal but nobody can convert it into a goal. This lifts the Lions and then begin to build the pressure again, a couple of long range shots at goal result in the ball being cleared by Bracknell which finds Billy Rushin who slots in a great pass to Connor Hayhow on the edge of the 6 yard box and finally the Lions get number 5. Bracknell don’t give up and continue pressing forward in numbers, the Lions defence is caught and they concede a free kick 30 yards out. The Bracknell player hits the ball well and it flies into a busy box and somehow finds its way into the back of the net 5-1. The Final whistle is blown not long after. Goals: Connor Hayhow (2), Connor Hall, Joe Cole, Louie Steinborn Man of the Match: Josh Valentine September 19 Yateley Junior Scorpions v Binfield Lions 26/09/09Yateley Junior Scorpions 1 - 4 Binfield Lions
Result annulled as Yateley were relegated 10:30Kick off, Saturday 26th September 2009.
Venue : Yateley, League Match Conditions : Mild, Dry Attendance : 37 Binfield Players : Adriano,Billy Rushin, Connor Hayhow, Dan, Guy, Joe, Josh, Louie, Matthew, Max, Seb, Thomas, Tom. First Half Binfield had a few players missing for this match and with Jamie injured, Max started in goal. As the game kicked off Binfield started positively with an early shot at goal from Joe. This was followed by some good work on the right and a shot by Louie. On the rare occasions Yateley ventured into our half, the defence comfortably dealt with any danger. Binfield now started to dominate the game and must have had half a dozen shots in the space of ten minutes, unfortunately all wide. Finally the break through arrived, a through ball from Connor saw the goalie come out to gather but Joe beat him to the ball and headed over for our first goal, 1-0 Binfield. Just as everyone started to relax Yateley won a corner and from the resulting kick scored with their first shot of the game. Binfield quickly came back and had two great opportunities to regain the lead but yet again shot wide with only the goalie to beat. 1-1 Half Time
Second Half Binfield again started brightly and continued to dominate. Just when it looked like it was not going to be our day Josh picked up the ball on the half way line and proceeded to go past several players before slotting the ball past the keeper, 2-1 Binfield. Shortly after, a through ball by Louie saw Dan shoot past the keeper, 3-1 Binfield. We now started to relax and play passing football. A fourth shortly followed as Connor’s shot was blocked before rebounding to Dan who slotted in for his second of the game, 4-1 Binfield. As the final whistle went it was a good performance by Binfield but it could have been and should have been more.
Goals: Joe Cole, Dan Muino (2), Josh Valentine Man of the Match: Connor Hayhow September 12 FC Bracknell v Binfield Lions 19/09/09FC Bracknell 3 - 4 Binfield Lions
10:30 Kick off, Saturday 19th September 2009.
Venue : The Elms, Bracknell Click here for Map Conditions : Mild, Dry Attendance : 42 Binfield Players : Adriano, Billy Rushin, Billy Rogers, Connor Hall, Connor Hayhow, Dan, Guy, Jamie, Joe, Josh, Louie, Matthew, Michael, Thomas, Tom. First half Binfield Lions kicked off and immediately passed the ball neatly into the Bracknell FC area, although the crowd of 42 supporters did not realize it yet this was where the ball was going to stay for much of the entire match.
The ball was bouncing about in the Bracknell six yard box and after several failed attempts by the home defence to clear COLE headed back across goal and into the far corner of the net with just 2 minutes on the clock. Unfortunately the goal was disallowed for off-side; no doubt the linesman thought it was too early in the match to open the scoring.
Both boys playing up front had early chances and RUSHIN also brought out a fine save on 18 minutes with a superb volley. It was ALL ONE WAY TRAFFIC but the Bracknell FC Goalkeeper was playing well and was always in the right place to save each time. Goal 20.35 More sustained pressure in the home area brought about a failed clearance which sliced spinning across the box, COLE took his time and coolly finished with a side footed shot wide of the diving goal keeper Goal 21.15 The strong Binfield mid field pair of RAWLINGSON and MUINO regained the ball straight from the kick off and applied yet more pressure on the home side. This time the ball fell to HARRISON to complete the move and make the score line look slightly more realistic based upon the percentage of play. Goal 28.45 With half time looming the Binfield defence seemed to have their minds more on the refreshments than the job in hand and gave away a sloppy corner. This was the home side’s FIRST corner of the match and they made it count scoring from a good delivery across the Binfield goal mouth. Goal 30.45 The shock of the Bracknell goal seemed to spur Binfield on as rather than play out the half and regroup they won yet another corner with seconds remaining. This time a good delivery resulted in HALL opening his goal account for the season with a clinical finish which restored the two goal margin.
Second Half The half time team talk seemed to give Bracknell a new outlook on the contest as they pushed forward into the Binfield half with a new found belief. Goal 36.45 Such was the Bracknell team’s confidence that they were not just here just to make up the numbers they decided to unleash a speculative volley from way outside the box, this long range 20 yard plus shot took the Binfield defence and goal keeper by total surprise as it sailed into the back of the net. Game On! The problems escalated at this point as RODGERS had to be replaced in goal by UTTLEY due to an injury. Binfield were now back in total control of the game again with RUSHIN, HALL and VALENTIN all combining well. This prolonged period of quality football resulted in a good ball being floated over which fell at the feet of the ever dependable multi sportsman HALL who somehow volleyed over the bar - perhaps for a split second thinking he was still on the Rugby Pitch. Goal 55.35 Such was the away team’s pressure that the Binfield defenders could not resist the temptation to push up the pitch further and further and further. Coach RUSHIN made a couple of polite requests for the defence to maintain position, which were ignored Forgetting the RESPECT Campaign Guidelines for just a moment his final request could have been heard back at Stubbs Lane. However the instruction to defend came TOO LATE as Bracknell had come from no where to level the scores with just 5 minutes plus stoppage time left on the clock. Such was the excitement now that the crowd was swelled by a further 4 people and two dogs who had no doubt wondered across the park area to see what all the shouting was about. Bracknell now found them-selves on the brink of an escape act that Harry Houdini would have been proud of. The Binfield boys however had other ideas as the team picked up the pace and pushed forward again. VALENTIN quick to cease upon any opportunity made a powerful jinking run beating two home defenders and was clean through only to see a good shot hit the bottom of the post and go out for a goal kick, surely the last chance gone. Goal 59.45 With the home supporters already Thinking It Was All Over, Binfield won a last corner. The cross sailed into the 6 yard box where HALL climbed above the Bracknell defence to head the ball firmly into the net and secure the 3 points that the overall Binfield performance deserved.
Goals: Joe Cole (1), Michael Harrison (1), Connor Hall (2) Man of the match: Matthew Rawlinson
August 29 Binfield Lions v Eldon Celtic 12/09/09Binfield Lions 1 - 1 Eldon Celtic Lions
10h15 kick off, Saturday 12th September 2009.
Venue : Stubbs Lane, League Match. Conditions : Sunny, warm Attendance : 46 Binfield Players :Adriano, Billy Rushin, Billy Rogers, Connor Hall, Connor Hayhow, Dan, Jamie, Joe, Josh, Louie, Matthew, Michael, Seb, Thomas, Tom. After back-to-back tournament wins, the team got down to the serious business of 11 a-side Premier league football for the first time!
First Half Binfield struggled to get into their stride during the first 20 minutes of the game as Eldon Celtic played some great attacking football. Down to some good defending and a bit of luck, the Lions managed to keep the score at 0-0. We then started to get into the game and one of our attacks resulted in a corner, from which Josh won a great header in the area but unfortunately it went straight at the keeper. At the next attack Connor Hall battled to stop a ball going out for a goal kick, he passed the ball to Josh who crossed it into the area for Mike to score with a header. This goal was against the run of play as Eldon had been the stronger team up to this point. Second Half A motivational chat with Steve at half time fired the team up for the second half. Binfield came out playing a lot better and created numerous half chances, on one occasion, Louis had a great chance to put us 2 up, but Eldon's keeper made a good save and turned it around the post for a corner. We were now the stronger team having most of the pocession but just could not get the important second goal. Eldon started to get back into the game when their striker broke through to be left one on one with Jamie who made a good save to keep it 1-0. With 5 minutes to go it was end to end football, but unfortunately, an Eldon striker broke through again and this time he managed to equalize.
A draw was a fair result. Binfield played really well in their first league encounter.
